Living With Hope in a Broken World

February 25, 2024 / Tim Amey

What is Hope?  A confident expectation of good things to come.

1 Peter 1:3-9 (NIV)

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

What is a living hope?  It is the hope that comes through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead!

Hebrews 11:1 (ESV)

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Genesis 1:31 (ESV)

God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.

Romans 1:25 (ESV)

…they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator…

Romans 12:2 (ESV)

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Rebellions are Built on Hope

We are the messengers of the living hope we have in Christ!

The Christian Life is a Life of Absence by David Bowden

Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Until the day He calls us home, He charges us to be rebels for His cause!
